On Black & Whites

In a world filled with vibrant colors, there is a certain timeless and captivating quality to black and white photography that continues to inspire and captivate me. By stripping away the distraction of color, black and white photography allows me to delve deeper into the essence and emotion of the subject, revealing a raw and authentic narrative.

Black and white photography emphasizes contrast, texture, and composition, enabling us to highlight the interplay of light and shadow. It invites viewers to engage with the subtleties of form, expression, and storytelling, as the absence of color shifts the focus to the subject themselves. By embracing the simplicity of black and white, I aim to capture moments that are often limited by color and connect with both the subject and viewers in a profound and enduring way.

Colours, like all elements of a good photograph, must serve a purpose. If they do not, the photographer and the subject are better served to remove them altogether.

All photos delivered from my portrait sessions will always include all the photographs in colour. However, I will always make recommendations for which portrait would also look good in black and white and provide that at no additional fee.

Below are five of my favourite black and white photos I have taken. To see more, check out my black and white gallery page.
